Turgut Kebab Restaurant -Sultanahmet-
Istanbul
Reviews
I had amazing kebab with excellent service. Turkiye is already a very warm country with warm people but the experience at Turgut was superb. Food is very nice great combination worth mentioning but the service made the experience complete. I had trouble with my card (anyone using capital one debit card, be ready for back up payment) and instead of making me embarrassed, Halil and Mustafa offered a cup of tea, turkish dessert, and turkish coffee so that I can take time in comfort. I will definitely come here with my friends when I have chance to travel Istanbul again. Highly recommend⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a super nice tomato cucumber salad and chicken shish kebab. Love the tzatziki that they served with the bread. We also need to mention that we were served by the handsome Mustafa who is simply the best! He shared some watermelon and apple tea with us! Oh yes. The grey cat was supposedly named Angelina Jolie!?! 🤣
After seeing the 4.9 rating and thousands of reviews, I expected a flawless experience. However, I didn't realise Sultanahmet is a very tourist-focused area, and the prices are comparable to London. I was also under the impression this was a rooftop restaurant, but we were seated in the ground-floor outdoor area. The food was good, with very generous portions, but the overall experience felt overpriced. We ordered the mixed grill for one, döner kebab, minced meat pita, and water — the total was 5,000 lira (almost £80). The service was good, but not exceptional, and we felt heavily encouraged to leave extra service on top. Overall, decent food and large portions, but the experience was slightly overhyped.
Highly rated restaurant for a reason. The food portions are huge and very shareable. Great flavor and variety. The staff was really friendly and welcoming. Our group also speaks Spanish and the staff tried their best to communicate with us, it felt really genuine and welcoming. I can’t stress enough how flavorful the food was. The chicken wings especially were fantastic as well as the lamb casserole. A fun surprise was this cute little kitten that sat next to us. This place is also very well centered as it’s right next to the Mosques, which makes it very convenient for us tourists. Spacial thank you to our servers, Samet and Hamza. They were incredibly kind and friendly; even gave us complementary dessert and tea. Tesekkur ederim!
Visited this restaurant on a recommendation from our hotel and what an excellent recommendation it was. We were shown to a table and presented with menus and given as much time to work out what we wanted but having extensively travelled Turkey we pretty much new the menu. They then asked if we would like drinks and we were informed they do not serve alcohol but made some recommendations which my wife is now in love with freshly squeezed pomegranate juice. We ordered one of our favourite starters Ezme salad a spicy tomato based sauce for dipping and some puffy bread which arrived piping hot. The bread was so delicious we ordered another puffy bread and they presented us with more Ezme salad, some Cacik and a pepper and aubergine dip. For mains we ordered Chicken Shish and a Lamb Testi kebab which is not like a kebab as we brits would think of it. A Testi kebab is more like a casserole cooked in a clay pot which they first presented our son with a very warm stone bowl and some rice and some Turkish bread. They then began presenting the Testi Kebab with show of flames and flare the finally tapping the clay pot until it pops and the base falls off so they can pour your casserole into your stone bowl. The show accompanying the serving of the Testi Kebab had everyone out with cameras and people from outside the restaurant rushing over to watch. The food, service and drinks were all amazing. After our meal they offered us free Turkish Tea “Cay” and Baklava a very sweet dessert. We went back to the restaurant the next day for lunch and had Turkish Pide ( basically a Turkish type pizza but lighter) and on our last night we went back and the Testi Kebab and Iskender Kebab was on the table. The prices in this restaurant are very reasonable about £80 for two courses three people and a soft drink each. All in all a fantastic meal and night out and would highly recommend to anyone.
