The restaurant was eye catching, very nice design and located in prime location of tourist area. The food was okay, the soup 👌🏻 the grilled salmon 👌🏻 the anchovy and the shrims stewed were below average, and overall it was pricey
I had a wonderful time at this restaurant within the market in Üsküdar. I crossed the Bosphorus specifically to come here. I was very warmly welcomed and treated so well throughout my lunch. Delicious freshly-cooked fish, a colourful vibrant salad and perfect French fries. A great place to eat real local food among ‘real’ people.
Recommended by my friend for the fish wrap here. But we actually prefer the ocean fish soup more! There was no service fee charged to us as tourist, very fairly priced.
Okyanus Balık – A Disappointing Experience Despite High Expectations I recently revisited Okyanus Balık, a fish restaurant that came highly recommended by a friend. Interestingly, I realized I had been there many years ago. Located in a tourist-friendly area, the restaurant was easy to find, and I quickly secured a small table. The staff were attentive, with plenty of waiters around, which was reassuring. However, I was surprised by the limited English spoken, especially given the location. Following my friend’s advice, I ordered the popular fish soup and requested a grilled portion of lüfer (bluefish), a common and beloved fish in Istanbul. The soup arrived promptly, accompanied by generous servings of bread, as is typical in Turkey. Unfortunately, when I inquired about the grilled fish, I was told it wasn’t available. Just as I was about to leave, one of the staff urged me to wait, saying they could source it from a nearby fish shop. About 15 minutes later, a small portion of lüfer was served. While it was acceptable, it lacked the flavor I had hoped for. What added to my disappointment was the pricing. The fish wasn’t listed on the menu, so I had no way of knowing the cost beforehand. When the bill arrived, I was shocked to find that the grilled version was nearly double the price of other fish dishes, despite being a standard offering, so one fish is price doubled the kilo price. Overall, the experience felt overpriced and underwhelming. While the service was decent, the lack of transparency and the mediocre quality of the food left me dissatisfied. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant, nor do I plan to return.
