Reviews
I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. While eating the tabbouleh, I found a hair in my mouth. I pulled it out, placed it on a napkin, and handed it to the staff. I politely asked them to remove the tabbouleh because, after such a serious hygiene issue, I had completely lost my appetite. I even told them I no longer wanted the main course, but they insisted on serving it anyway. What concerned me most was not just finding the hair, but the restaurant’s lack of concern for hygiene and customer care. There was no meaningful apology, no effort to make things right, and no discount or goodwill gesture. I was still charged the full bill of 3,430 TL. In addition, I personally did not find the meat to be fresh or of good quality, which only added to my disappointment. The restaurant benefits from its excellent location next to Galata Tower, but I left with the impression that customer satisfaction and hygiene are not treated as priorities. I hope they take food hygiene much more seriously and improve the way they handle legitimate customer complaints.
Fettuccine alfredo was excellent. Tasted just like back home in the US. So good I had to come back a 2nd time. Great location ambiance etc but you might have to pay a premium. Was worth it, pasta was amazing. Grilled meatballs were good too. Pasta was about 720 Turkish lira, meatballs around 850
After a long flight from LAX, I arrived in Istanbul and was looking for a relaxing late dinner. The front desk at my hotel recommended Güney Restaurant, and I’m so glad they did. It was less than a 10-minute walk from my hotel in the Galata area, and the walk itself was part of the experience. Although there was a bit of an uphill climb, it wasn’t bad at all, and arriving with the beautiful Galata Tower standing right in front of the restaurant made it well worth it. While the interior is beautiful, warm, and inviting, I chose to sit outside facing the street. One of my favorite things about traveling is simply watching the world go by, and this was the perfect place to do just that. I ordered the grilled sea bass, grape leaves, fresh bread, and a delicious tomato-based spread that paired perfectly with the meal. Since it was my first evening after a long flight, I skipped the wine and opted for sparkling water instead. I’ve found that sparkling water helps me adjust when traveling and enjoying rich local cuisine. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly affordable compared to prices back home in California. My entire meal, including tip, was about $36 USD. What impressed me most was the hospitality. A special thank you to Nurullah, who was incredibly kind and welcoming. It wasn’t just my server who checked on me throughout the evening…the other staff members also stopped by to ask how I was enjoying the food and whether I needed anything. As a solo traveler, those thoughtful touches made me feel genuinely welcome. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Empty dishes were cleared almost immediately, my table was always kept tidy, and the staff worked together seamlessly to ensure guests were well taken care of. I also asked for a few photos, and the team happily helped one another to make sure I got some great shots. It’s those small acts of kindness that turn a good meal into a memorable experience. For fellow travelers visiting Turkey, remember that tipping is appreciated. One thing I’ve learned from my travels is to embrace the local culture, be kind, and show respect. You’ll often receive that same kindness in return. Thank you, Nurullah, and the entire team for such a wonderful first dinner in Istanbul. Sitting outside near Galata Tower, enjoying a delicious meal while watching the world go by, was the perfect way to begin my time in this beautiful city. I look forward to returning on my next visit. Been here a few times over the years and our most recent experience was yet again another great experience. The food was super delicious. We had the lamb tandoori with a meat life, both were exceptional. Considering the location, the price feels fair, and the quality of the food definitely makes it worth while. Would come back again. Staff are also friendly and helpful
The restaurant is very close to the Galata tower. Both outdoor and indoor seating arrangements are presented here. Indoor areas are less nosier compared to the outside, sometimes you need to wait for a longer time to get a table here. Varieties of food items are available here throughout the full day from breakfast to dinner. Meat items are most recommended by the staff here. Desert, soft or hard liquid all of these are found in this place. Through food prices are quite bit high. The staff are very helpful and you can easily communicate with them in the english language. Separately wheelchair facilities aren’t presented but using outdoor arrangements, it’s easily possible.
