Description
The Blue Mosque, also known as Sultan Ahmed Mosque, is a significant example of classical Ottoman architecture in Istanbul’s Fatih district. Overlooking Sultanahmet Square and the ancient Hippodrome, the mosque is renowned for its six towering minarets and striking interior decorated with blue İznik tiles.
Commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I in the early 17th century, it remains a functioning mosque and a cultural landmark. Guided tours operate daily except Fridays. Participants should arrive at least 20 minutes early outside the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, where the guide will wait near the tall white information pillar holding a white flag with Istanbul Tourist Pass® and istanbul.com logos.
