Description
Meet your guide at your central Istanbul hotel and head to Eminönü pier. With a hot tea in hand, board the public ferry and watch the silhouettes of mosques, markets, and Topkapı Palace slide behind you as you follow the shoreline north. Pass under the bridges, glide by historic districts like Beşiktaş and Bebek, and enjoy the first sweep of domes, palaces, and wooden waterfront mansions from the water.
Make your first stop in Arnavutköy, one of Istanbul’s most elegant old quarters. Walk through narrow backstreets lined with colorful wooden houses, churches, and old apartment buildings that tell the story of a multi-cultural Bosphorus. Wander, photograph, and maybe sit for a coffee before returning to the ferry and continuing the journey past Rumeli Fortress and the stately yalıs of Yeniköy.
Around midday, reach the quieter atmosphere of Büyükdere. Once a diplomatic enclave during late Ottoman times, today it feels like a relaxed seaside town. Stop here for lunch at a local restaurant where fresh fish and seasonal meze are the stars, then stroll along the promenade toward Sarıyer, passing old mansions, schools, and shady trees right on the water’s edge.
From Sarıyer, cross the strait to Anadolu Kavağı on the Asian side, where Istanbul begins to feel like a fishing village again. A short local transfer takes you up to Yoros Castle, an old hilltop stronghold guarding the entrance to the Black Sea. From here, get one of the most expansive views in the city: the full curve of the Bosphorus, the forested hills, and the open sea beyond, while your guide shares the layered history of the site, from Byzantines and Genoese to the Ottomans.
In the afternoon, sail back down the Asian shore to Kanlıca, famous for its rich yogurt served with powdered sugar. Take a slow break at a family-run café and explore the sleepy streets and wooden houses tucked between the hills and the shoreline. It’s a moment to breathe and feel the everyday rhythm of the Bosphorus far from the busy center.
The final ferry ride brings you to Üsküdar, one of the most atmospheric districts on the Asian side. As the sun begins to set, walk the waterfront, taking in the views of the city skyline.
